Its a Boy Free Desktop Background and Giveaway

Its a Boy Free Desktop Background and Giveaway

Today I am proud to announce the arrival of our third son and what better way to share this joyous occasion then giving away an it’s a boy free desktop background and a chance to win a custom desktop background. For the past twelve days it has been a whirlwind of feedings, diaper changes and non-stop laundry. I tell you now this baby is an eating and pooping machine, but oh so much fun! In my sleep deprived, euphoric state, I’ve been able to sneak in some time to sketch and design the above “it’s a boy” desktop background for you to enjoy and share. If you or anyone you know has recently experienced the arrival of a new family member then please send them here to grab a copy for themselves.

Also, in honor of my baby boy, I am offering you a chance to win a custom desktop background created either as a digital painting or vector illustration from one of you photos.

    The rules are simple:

  • All you have to do to enter is leave a comment.
  • Only comment once.
  • 1 winner will be randomly chosen and will receive a custom desktop background of either a vector illustration, digital oil or water color painting from their single subject photo.
  • You must leave an email address in order to win.
  • Comments will remain open until Friday, January 29th.

Good luck to everyone and I can’t wait to hear all of your comments!

About Its a Boy

The early 19th century nursery rhyme “What are little boys made of” was the inspiration for this background. I first sketched my characters in a pocket sketch pad and scanned them into Adobe Illustrator. Using the pen tool, one of my favorite and most powerful tools, I created vector versions of both the snail and puppy. The clouds are basically circles I “mashed” together using the pathfinder tool and the moon was created using a gradient and moon surface texture within a vector mask. Next I created the background using a variety of gradients, Japanese line art, cloud textures and brushes with a variety of layer styles and effects. Lastly I brought over all the vector drawings into Adobe Photoshop, placed them accordingly and added finishing touches such as the stars, text, glowing effects and layer masks.

If you are not familiar with either program then what I mentioned just sounds like garbley goop. I just wanted to give a quick, and very raw look at what goes into creating a simple, fun desktop background. I hope you enjoy!
